DOFUS is a tactical MMORPG with 2D graphics … but what else?
MMORPG: a Special Type of Game
MMORPG stands for Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game.
To be considered as a MMORPG, a video game must:
- Be accessible on the internet only
- Have a persistent universe meaning that it’s accessible 24/7 all year round.
- Be open to more than 128 players simultaneously on one server (DOFUS hosts a few thousands players).
A MMORPG offers a virtual world (either imaginary or inspired by reality) in which the player can connect and act through an avatar (or character or digital incarnation) that will represent him. The player interacts with the machine and the other players respecting the rules and the atmosphere of this virtual universe.
A Tactical Game
DOFUS is different from most of the other MMORPGs thanks to its tactical aspect. For a video game, it means that fights are turn-based, just like in a chess game. Indeed, each player has to wait for his turn to play. The turn-based tactical aspect of DOFUS stimulates the players' reflection instead of his reflexes and dexterity.
