Lumberjack
Do you find yourself waking up in the morning with nothing but wood on your mind and chopping in your elbows? This job's for you!
Cutting trees is no work for a slacker! On the other hand, there's plenty of them around, so you won't have to look very hard! Demand for wood is always high in the World of Twelve - it's used by all kinds of crafters such as jewellers, handymen, smiths and carvers - so you'll have no trouble selling what you work hard to chop.
But it won't always be so simple. Certain trees can be rare and you will have to spend time finding them before getting to work. What's more, some trees take a very long time to grow back.
The life of a lumberjack is not always the easiest, but with a bit of patience and elbow grease, you'll have no problem keeping bacon in the frying pan and clothes on your back! What's best about the profession is that it's useful for every type of craft later on, because it means that you don't have to pay for the wood you use.
If you're turned on by the ear-piercing cry of the Lumberjack as he fells his prey, then get yourself to Foreman Ikure (3,3) as soon as you arrive in Incarnam and he'll have you chopping trees like a master before you can shout 'TIMBERRRRR'!
If you miss the chance to learn the trade here, you can always do your apprenticeship when you leave Incarnam. In this case, Oli Venders in Astrub (2,-21) is your man. Agrid Shakoku can also teach you the trade - you'll find him in his workshop in the heart of Amakna (4,8).
Once you've got the hang of chopping, you'll need to invest in the tools - start with an Apprentice Lumberjack's Axe, which you'll get for free from Foreman Ikure during your apprenticeship - if you learn the trade in Incarnam, that is.
If you waited until after Incarnam, you can either buy a Lumberjack Axe from Oli Venders or Agrid Shakoku or do Agrid a little favour and get the... Agride!
There are plenty of other axes in the World of Twelve, but not all of them were made to cut wood. Here's a list of the ones that can be used to chop trees:
- Apprentice Lumberjack's Axe (level 1)
- Lumberjack Axe (level 1)
- Ash Tree Eater (level 8)
- Chestnut Tree Eater (level 8)
- Yew Axe (level 17)
- Walnut Cutter (level 21)
- Maple Tree Eater (level 25)
- Agride (level 27)
- Wild Cherry Splitter (level 32)
- Oak killer (level 33)
- Charm Pruner (level 47)
- Boulgourde of the Glades (level 62)
- Treechnid Splitter (level 74)
- Ancestral Treechnid Splitter (level 93)
Each of these axes requires a minimum level to be equipped (not the level of your profession, but the level of your character which increases when you win fights.)
Note: the characteristics of these axes will not affect the speed at which you harvest, nor the number of units you collect.Once you've found and equipped the axe of your dreams, there's nothing left but to start chopping.
Do you have wood to keep a city smouldering for the next ten years? Well, ignore the pyromaniac within for the moment and think about using it to make planks and potions. Click on a saw and select the action 'Saw', then slide the ingredients into the slots available and indicate the number of units required following the directions in your recipe window.
Like with harvesting, the more your practice your profession, the more experience you'll gain and as the level of your profession rises, you'll be able to use new recipes. The complexity of a recipe depends on how many slot of ingredients are used to make it, where each slot hold only one item The list below tells you the different levels required for each recipe:
- 2 slots (level 1+)
- 3 slots (level 10+)
- 4 slots (level 20+)
- 5 slots (level 40+)
- 6 slots (level 60+)
- 7 slots (level 80+)
- 8 slots (level 100+)
Note: Although the list above shows that you can use up to eight slots when you reach level 100, lumberjack recipes use a maximum of only four slots.
As always, the more complex a recipe is the more experience you'll gain if you manage to do it. But the lower your level is, the less likely you will be to succeed in using it.
