Butcher
Does the color of blood make you blush with excitement? Well, strange fellow, I think you've finally found a pastime you can get stuck into without getting yourself arrested!
Before starting out on your career as a butcher, it is highly recommended that you have some experience as a hunter. Since there are not very many hunters in the World of Twelve, some meats can be rare and expensive, so you'll be better off if you can go out and kill the fresh produce with your own two hands. If you don't like to get animal fur all over your hands, maybe you could team up with a friend and let him do the slaughtering for you.
Don't expect the first few cuts of meat you carve to sell very well - the market for cheap food is flooded with bread! But as you gain experience and start learning tasty new recipes, your products will fly off the shelves. Four-star meat (****) will generally sell quite well because its magical effects are highly valued, so if you ever get the chance to make some, go for it!
The profession of butcher may seem difficult at first sight, and this is exactly why there are so few butchers out there. But if you take the chance and learn this trade well, you won't have much to fear from the competition! With a bit of good sense and a lot of hard work, you'll eventually be making some steaks that are worth their weight in gold.
Are dreams of fresh, dripping animal flesh keeping you up at night? Well, put on your slippers and hop over to Saketsu's workshop in Astrub (0,-15) to make your dream come true... unless of course these dreams of fresh, dripping meat you're having are actually nightmares...
For all you aspiring butchers in Brakmar, Ala Raine (-32,-50) is the man to see and in Bonta, look for Boud Chair (-29,32). These two famous meat packers will be happy to pass on the spicy details of their craft.
Once you've got to grips with the art of carving meat, you can buy the tools you need. Start with the
Butcher Cleaver. For the sum of 200 Kamas, you can buy one off whoever taught you the profession.
That's it! You got the tools, you've got the know-how, nothing remains but to get down to your first creation!
It's time to make some meat! Put down your weapon, equip your cleaver and go to the nearest Butcher's workshop. Click on a Workbench (butchers can only use the ones with a range hood) and select the action 'Prepare Meat'. Slide the ingredients into the empty slots according to what you see in the recipes interface.
As you might have guessed, the main ingredient in your cooking will be meat. You can buy meat at the Hunters' Marketplace, or hunt it yourself if you're trained. Any meat you buy has to have been prepared by a hunter before you get it (''Preserved'' meats), so before trying out your recipe, check to make sure this is the case.
You'll also need certain resources for seasoning your dishes such as salt, pepper and cooking oil. You'll find everything you need in Astrub grocery store (1,-16) or from Aga Dou on Amakna Marketplace(1,1).
The dishes you're going to make are eaten by tired or wounded adventurers to restore Health Points. The number of stars a particular dish has tells you more or less how many HP the plate restores, with the maximum being 4 stars (****). Some meats (Kaniger, Koalak, Crocodyl) have no stars, but are still powerful and healthy foods and are even harder to prepare than four-star meat.
When you start practicing your profession, you'll only be able to use simple recipes, and only ones with 2 resources (i.e. 2 slots). Once you get a little experience under your belt, you can move on to more complex recipes with more ingredients and more slots. The list below tells you the different grades of recipe along with the level you require to be able to use them:
- 2 slots (level 1+)
- 3 slots (level 10+)
- 4 slots (level 20+)
- 5 slots (level 40+)
- 6 slots (level 60+)
- 7 slots (level 80+)
- 8 slots (level 100+)
As with all crafting professions, the more complex a recipe is, the more experience you'll gain if you manage to do it. But the lower your level is, the less likely you will be to succeed in using it... bear in mind that no recipe is a guaranteed success.
Special Recipes (****):You won't just be making traditional recipes, but also dishes containing four-star meat (****), which are magic meats dropped from legendary monsters (Lord Crow, Royal Gobball, Dragon Pig and Wa Wabbit). These meats are rare and valuable, and it's not surprise seeing the magical powers this type of food has. Here is a list of special recipes containing four-star meat.
