2011-08-01 11:21For the majority of players there is no cause for concern, the data that we suspect of being compromised was encrypted; it would be almost completely unusuable in this state.
All payments on DOFUS sites are directly done between players and our payment partners, absolutely no credit card or bank information is stored on our servers. No one can access this kind of data through our servers.
Because your security is our priority, we would like to announce that a new certification system will soon be added on DOFUS. This system will allow you to specifically define the computers where you plan to use your DOFUS account. Then, even if some unscrupulous person does gain access to your account, your characters' items will be protected.
This system - which has been under development for some time - will be stepped up and released as soon as possible in response to this unfortunate incident.
We are using all our available resources to increase and ensure the account security of all Ankama players.

I'm sorry people are finding their accounts emptied out by someone else, but I'm just finding it so ironic. Ankama is going to 'fix' this problem but 2 weeks ago when I was trying to get suggest a better security measure I was just an idiot. The suggestion I made was a simple one that would protect our accounts from clicking on a link in game. I realized what happened & quickly went to change my password on all of my accounts. BUT that wasn't enough because changing the password didn't cause any changes to them ALREADY logged into my account. If they would have it so that if a change to your pass word would cause you to be kicked from the game & make you re-log with the new pass word. OH and my fave respose was that it wasn't Ankama's responsiblilty to guard our information.. That was from the post I made about my hack the Problems & solutions section.
Now that the shoe is on the other foot everyone has a different feeling about the whole situation!! Imagine that!
So ... do I still look foolish?
I have a degree in Computer Science and do website security as part of my job. Clearly my "foolish assumptions" were not that far off if Ankama had to go to such extremes to try to clean up the mess they made.
So now days later people are now logging in to find out that their stuff is gone. I'd guess that those people share their account information with their 'friend'. I'm going to leave it at that because this whole server security is a joke. It's right up there with the awesome customer service!! Why is it that when you have a problem with your account you have to send in a ticket?? why can't you pick up the phone & talk to a real live person? or even live chat if they're afraid of a language problem. I've looked around for other games to play & always have ended up staying with dofus because I've put a lot of my time into creating things that make my time online fun. I hold out hope that it will get better. I'm glad I wasn't holding my breath!
Knowing how well they react to any problems they create, I expect them not to fix anything anyway. (Like when many ppl lost their skill points from diamonds when Ankama was transferring chars to new servers - completely ignored and never fixed)
And their support site is a joke.
Yes, my account was hacked too - everything gone (items, pets, mats...)
and all I know is
a) ankama fucked up
b) "This account was last accessed on 02/08/2011 at 16:47 from IP address 74.198.1.91" (which is in Canada, where I have never been in my life)
damn, wrong place to post. o.O
