Gift Points are going into retirement
2012-02-02 10:26
As of February 22, 2012, Gift Points will disappear. We're removing this unnecessary step between you and your subscription gift. Now, you will directly receive the gift of your choice when subscribing with Ogrines, as is the case with other payment options.

But don't worry! Even though we  will no longer distribute gift points for Ogrine purchases, the Gift Section will remain open for several more months to give you time to spend your remaining GP. The four pets exclusive to the Gift Section will also have a special price reduction until the section closes. Enjoy!

Gift Points were introduced to support Ogrines when they were launched. Today, using Ogrines has become routine for players (for subscription, Dofus services, Kama exchange) and Ogrines have grown enough to adopt the same functionality as the other payment options. So you will receive your choice of our "classic" subscription rewards whenever you subscribe from now on.

Next week, we will publish an article on the Devblog to explain all this in detail!

Rewarding people who buy ogrines and then sub with them is fine. It's probably not the smartest thing to do though, as that is more incentive for people who were buying kamas from bots to go back to doing so since they will not be getting a gift with the ogrines they buy to sell. This doesn't affect me however since I don't sell ogrines and probably never will.

Here's the problem I have with this decision. Gift points are better then subscription gifts, that's obvious to anyone with half a working brain. Gift points can be saved and cashed in for a pet or livit-inem that's worth having. Most people I know and this includes myself sub either one month or 3 months at a time, and those gifts suck, they rot in the bank or get sold off to noobs for next to nothing. You guys might pull the wool over the eyes of the children who play but not me, you could care less about unspent gift points. If gift points are unspent then it's probably cuz they are saving for something good, although I don't believe that they are (unspent). If this is true then rework the pages that should inform people that they are getting gift points with their purchase because obviously it is poorly designed if this is true.

I believe the whole point of this is to try to make people sub for 6 months or a year at a time to get the good gifts, since that money is guaranteed regardless of whether or not they take a break or quit. If I sub a month at a time and for some reason I can't play dofus for the next 4 months 6 days and 13 hours then I won't sub anymore and dofus doesn't get that money from me. If however I already forked over the money for a years sub, because I wanted a pet that doesn't suck then Ankama misses out on nothing, as whether I play or not they got paid. With another round of changes coming up that people are no doubt going to be upset about that might be a financially smart move (I'm referring to the weapon nerf). I don't care for this type of business strategy, I find it rather distasteful and I'll leave it at that.

Edit- Sorry I lied, I can't leave it at that. There are two changes being made here, and they are not dependent upon each other, which is how it is being made to sound. The first change which most players probably feel is a good change is that now the sub gift will be awarded to the person who spends the ogrines to sub as opposed to the person who originally bought them. Fair enough, that sounds like a more fair way to do things. The second, bad idea, is to remove gift points as the reward for ogrines. The best solution for THE PLAYERS would be as follows: Get rid of subscription gifts and instead replace them with gift points which are far superior. Give gift points to the person who spends them on subscription time instead of the person who bought them.

I've been playing this game maybe for 6 or more years (if I'm not wrong)... among all this time I've seen how ANKAMA's business are way more important than their players enjoyment... and for those that thinks this is good because it benefits ANKAMA, you all should know DOFUS is only 1 of their products but maybe the most important product they have... like a Coca Cola, and they owe it to you and me... yeah they owe it to all of us.

We are the ones that PAYS TO PLAY, that give us some respect for what we thinks about some wrong choices they do.
If they want to make the players pay more amount of cash in less time (because this is the only reason why they are doing this) they should find another way to do their business just keeping on mind that they shouldn't take off something that benefits the gamers as PLAYERS thru the time, with GP are not a malicious interest but there is 1 for them..., make the same cash in less time...

I don't understand why ANKAMA is making up this move saying things that we even know, just finding an excuse to cleaning their hand to make this move easier for them, but if you read all this comments you will see there is not a single post that speaks good about this 'move'... oh yes only the lickers that can't see beyond their nose and even know what GP are.
I got in 4 accounts 110 GP I was saving to get some items I wanted, but now I won't use them just because I don't like the other gift items they offer, and I made that bought of Ogrines/GP thinking I could get some day those gifts.

I have 9 DOFUS accounts and I always pay In DOFUS website for my subscription, just same as many users here, I wouldn't be that mad if they let us know this move with a year of advantage just to get cash to get more Ogrines/GP to get the gifts we want, or in other case just get cash to pay in normal subscription to get the gifts I wanted.

Just want to let ANKAMA developers know that I won't use my gift points because there is no reason to use them and with this I'm getting really tired to deal with that wrong decisions they always take just thinking on their own business and their race to earn more cash from all of us.
I feel cheated with this, cash wasted time wasted and GP wasted...
well done ANKAMA.

Wauw realy becouse before this post the pices were the same as after the post. Ankama is REALY generous this time pff
Alyss-Sin 20 February 2012 - 17:53
The price reduction has been there the entire time. All items that can only be obtained with gift points have been reduced.
Patrificus 20 February 2012 - 17:22
Hmm I looked at the gift selection place but it seems the special price reduction isn't comming. Why tell people the prices will go down and dont do it I want to know, Or is it starting from 22th february?

Can anyone give me some clearing on this subject becouse i still have gift points and if the comes a price reduction I want to know before I spend them now.

At any rate, no doubt this benefits Ankama, and what benefits Ankama, benefits the longevity of Dofus as a whole, which trickles down to us enjoying it longer... So... Indirectly, this is a plus for us. If one can grasp that all... makes sense?

One way to look at it in a posative...
If players do not quit out of irritation. Ankama loses in the end and Ankama lose means it is a threat to Dofus longivity as a whole.

I have said it before... If Ankama is so desperate to make more money, there are ways to do it without making their players unhappy. Look at my previous post on some of those suggestion.

I dont really care in the slightest about this but after reading everyone saying its bad... Why?

Its not like the gift points offer anything good and even if you get a Goon, Para cape/hat etc... You have to wait months to sell them... I have 300 on my account I use origines with and Ive kept them for so long because I dont nee anything good I can spend the on.... So ohwell.
You don't see the difference?

Would you choose 12 gifts (30 GP) each over 1 gift worth 360 GP?

Short duration subscriber have no choice but to get 12 useless gifts when they could get a 360 GP gifts in the gift point system.
