Krosmaster Arena announced for DOFUS and WAKFU
2012-08-09 17:30
Krosmaster arena is the first expansion to combine the flagship games of Ankama, DOFUS & WAKFU. You'll be able to battle other players in game of tactical, turn-based combat by taking control of a figurine army!
The Krosmaster Arena brings players of DOFUS and WAKFU together in the same online arena where they can compete without ever leaving the comfort of their own games! Matchs are speedy and dynamic, the perfect activity to keep you busy between dungeons or Kolossium matches! This mighty mini-game offers the historical richness of your favorite MMO's background with the elegant simplicity of a board game. Novices and experts will start each game with the same standing and only the best tactical mind will win!
Players will also be able to show off their tactical skill in online Krosmaster Arena tournaments! The champions of these tournaments will be rewarded with gifts in DOFUS, or WAKFU, or by winning special figurines!
This expansion puts your WAKFU or DOFUS character in command of a collection of figurines. Each type of figurine has a special style and unique spells. When the expansion is released, you will be able to begin playing immediately with a basic team of free miniatures. It will also be possible to drop additional miniatures by defeating monsters in DOFUS and WAKFU.
We'll reveal more about this expansion, including it's official release date, in the coming months. Check back often for more mighty miniature news!

It will be an in-game minigame that can be played from inside the Wakfu and Dofus clients. It will probably be similar to the Ogrines page, which is loaded from an external server within the DOFUS client.
Dofus gains rewards if they (win) PvP in Krosmaster.
Wakfu gains rewards if they (win) PvP in Krozmaster.
Krozmaster gains rewards (miniatures) by completing Dofus or Wakfu quest/achievements.
I am assuming that this will be an in-game mini game based on this statement:
Maybe I'm reading too much into it but I don't see how a separate client could possibly be considered to not be leaving the comfort of your own game.
Also:
This implies that you can play Krosmaster while waiting for a kolo match, which would only be possible if it was a mini game in the Dofus and Wakfu clients. If it was a separate client then that wouldn't work.
Edit: Also I noticed that it is specifically called an "expansion", not a new game. Maybe it is too early to tell but I would put my bet on this being a mini game in the client, rather than a new client.
The idea of players playing krosmaster without ever leaving the comfort of their own game means that they can play both client simultaneously. If it is in-game then once you play krosmaster, then you are leaving your current game, unless ofcourse if playing the in-game krosmaster, it opens up a separate window or gamescreen.
"perfect activities between dungeons or kolossium matches"... I think this only means that fights in this krosmaster are short so it will fit well in between activities. It would not be perfect if it is in-game because once your group starts your activity/kolo match, being in a krosmaster match will interfere with your schedule. If it is a separate client, then you can play them both at the same time.
"Expansion" can also mean contents that are associated with the krosmaster (dofus and wakfu reward, quest and client linkage) and not the krosmaster game itself.
Furthermore, I do not think Krosmaster can unify Dofus and Wakfu together and allow players from Dofus to fight players from Wakfu if it is an in-game mini-game. For one thing Dofus do not share the same server as Wakfu and one of the major issue for a interserver PvP is the physical set-up of the servers. If inter-server krosmaster is possible on a dofus or wakfu client, then I think inter-server PvP would also be possible.
I guess we both have placed our bets. See yah at payday.
Sorry Gunner, you backed the wrong horse...

I think this is awesome for those PvM'ers who can tolerate PvP... but as a pure PvM player, I will have to pass. No thanks. This is just a modified Dofus Arena, where they added rewards to Krosmaster players by playing Dofus and Wakfu.
Makes me wonder just how successful Dofus Arena and Gobbowl games are...
Something like inception?
But all jokes aside, I think that is a great idea, there can never be too many tactical games, tests, things.
And one interesting thing is that it looks like this feature has a bridge between dofus and wakfu servers. That is a positive step in the right direction to allowing something like kolo to bridge Dofus servers.
But I must say that I have to worry about all these new features, and whether or not the player base can support all of them. I mean right now there is already an incredible amount of things to do in Dofus. Wakfu feels a bit more limited imho, but it too is still pretty involving.
However, I'm afraid that adding yet another way to PvP will further fragment the player base between PvM, kolo PvP, and Krosmaster, making it even harder to find teams to do dungeons, or kolo fights, or even Krosmaster games.
Does Ankama really think there will be enough demand to keep Krosmaster alive and healthy? I mean I'd love to play it, but I'm not going to keep playing it if it takes hours to get a fight, just like I'm not playing Kolo now, even though I like it, because fights take forever to get.
The Wakfu cra has far better weapons and spells then us T.T
WE ARE SOOOOOOOOOOOO DEAAAAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Dofus cra is not fighting the Wakfu cra directly. Instead both cras are in control of figurines that they dropped in their respective worlds. I'm sure that many of the figurines will be the same in Dofus and Wakfu, although I'm sure there will be some figurines unique to Dofus and some unique to Wakfu.
So you will be on an equal standing with players on Wakfu.
Indeed if you were fighting Wakfu players directly it would be hopelessly unbalanced because level 199-200 Dofus players are way more powerful than the level 105 Wakfu players. (Or whatever max level currently is in Wakfu. I don't remember.)
It sounds like the arena takes place within your Dofus or Wakfu client. So if that is the case it may be just another cool bonus feature included with your subscription price, just like you don't have to pay for Kolo. Indeed if this new feature required a separate subscription I doubt many people would use it, and Ankama knows this too, so they wouldn't be foolish enough to kill a new feature before it even got a chance to get started.
