Each year, when the month of Flovor arrives, the World of the Twelve changes color. Victims of a disease as contagious as it is benign, the Gobballs lose their clean white wool sweaters and develop abnormally pink ones.
This "illness" is not restricted to just Gobballs, and adventurers who face these pink Gobballs will in turn contract the infamous Curse of the Chocrosis.
In case you find yourself contaminated, do not panic. Chocrosis is only dangerous for the Gobballs, due to the adventurers far and wide that start mercilessly hunting the poor miscolored critters, attracted both by the unique look it gives them, and the small boxes of chocolate and heart-shaped fairyworks that have been growing in the Gobballs' wool for seven hundred seventy-seven years!
While the ''Chocrosis'' curse is wreacking havoc with the Gobballs, there are two characters in the World of Twelve who are waiting for adventurers willing to give them a hand to complete some quests.
Cuspular, an inhabitant of Astrub, is apparently not very fond of the love-drunkeness which reigns all around him. He's waiting for you at [4,-20] and is counting on you to go and tear out the heart of one of the dungeon guardians, instead of him having to tear yours out. This quest can be repeated every day of the event. Ballotwine Chocolates, Candies, Fairyworks and XP are all thrown in! The player can choose which dungeon he wants to complete from a list based on his level:
Isgrate Giftoyu seems more inclined to get into the spirit of this sentimental occasion than his neighbour. This romantic is recruiting adventurers for some flowery quests at [4, -17]. If you help him, you'll get an amulet and an exclusive title.
Finally, the NPC Ballotwine at the Trool's Fair [-11, -37], is offering a heart summoning Fairywork for each lot of 20 Gobball wools you bring him.
It all started on Otomai Island. As everyone who is anyone knows, the island was the ideal place to conduct research on the origin of life. During the winter, however, most species are unfortunately less likely to mate, so a way had to be found to rekindle the ol' mating spirit in order for the research to continue. Thus the Disciples of Otomai had the idea of feeding chocolate to animals. Special chocolate, mixed with spices such as chilli, pepper, and just a hint of ginger, these chocolate squares excited the animals and allowed scientists to accelerate their reproductive cycle.
Unfortunately, the abuse of such chocolates on Gobballs led to a disease, which the disciples named after both the food used to produce the effect, and the color assumed by infected individuals. Chocolate... Rosy wool... Chocrosis! Brilliant! The disciples patted themselves on the back and went to lunch.
Luckily, the disciple needed to stimulate the animals quickly, so Chocrosis is a disease as quick as it is colorful. Its effects on individuals may disappear in less than a day, if they don't come in contact with another infected animal. (The exact duration seems to involve how much the individual enjoys violence)
Although Otomaï and his followers managed to contain the disease, their efforts fell into the water (figuratively and literally) when adventurers arrived en masse on the island in 638, the Chocrosis germs were spread all around the World of Twelve. Since then the disease has mutated and there is currently only one epidemic period a year: right around Flovor 14th. It's always Gobballs who are first infected.
These chocolates were originally used by the disciples of Otomai to increase the fertility and vigor of animals. It was later discovered that their effects could also work on humans ... No one could explain why they were found near the lifeless bodies of contaminated Gobballs after a battle, but, in a sense, nobody is surprised: could we expect less from an incident related to Otomai's experiments?
