Has your obsession with flowers started driving the ladies away rather than attracting them? Well learn to control your mania with a crash course in alchemy.
This profession is really special, not least because it has elements of both harvesting and crafting professions. You won't be able to make your magical potions until you get your knees dirty picking flowers first. This means that you'll save a lot of money on materials, but on the other hand, alchemy is much more time consuming than other professions.
But all the long days will be rewarded with a handsome income. You'll learn to make so many different potions that you'll never be short of customers to take your creations off your hands.
But don't get too carried away, because the competition is about to get a lot rougher than before. Everyone and anyone can try their hand at alchemy right from the moment they arrive in Incarnam, so you might find yourself selling some of your potions at rock bottom prices. Some sought-after resources will also become rarer and rarer as more and more alchemists qualify. Don't worry though, after a long week of fighting over tiny daisies and wealthy clients, you'll be able to put your feet up in front of the fire and sip away at one of your favourite personally brewed potions.
The easiest way to become an alchemist is to go and see Foreman Ikure (3,3) as soon as you arrive in Incarnam and ask him to train you up.
If you decide to wait till later on, by choice or by ignorance, you won't just be able to learn the trade from one single NPC like the other professions. You'll have to travel the World of Twelve and learn from the greatest alchemists alive! A good way to start is to go see Dragonsly in the Astrub alchemists' Marketplace (4,-18). He'll then send you to wise Uba Tesse who you'll find in his Amakna workshop (1,16) and who'll give you a Recommendation Scroll which you'll have to bring to several people. First of all, Boff Chalon (-2,-2), Kande Boffler (4,12) and Benn Zeen (1,31). Benn Zeen will send you to the examining alchemist, Vid Cheber (11,6) who'll request your Exam Request Scroll. When you've finished all this travelling, you'll finally be able to learn all the secrets and potions known to all alchemists - if you have any energy left, that is!
Once you've taken in all that the great masters have to teach you, you'll need the tools to practice your profession - Green Fingers is a good way to start, but don't worry, these gloves are given to every qualifying alchemist at the end of training. If you ever lose them you can always buy another pair from Uba Tesse.
That's it! You got the tools, you've got the know-how, nothing remains but to get down to business!
Une fois bien équipé, il ne vous reste plus qu'à cueillir vos premières fleurs !
You now have all you need to get to work, so put your weapon where it won't hurt anyone, equip your alchemist's gloves and click on a cell where flowers grow, selecting the action 'Pick'. The resources you mine will be stored in your inventory.
When you start practicing your profession, you'll only be able to collect one type of resource: Flax Flowers. Once you get a little experience under your belt, you can move on to new resources. The list below tells you the different levels required for each resource you can collect:
Have you collected enough flowers? You can try to sell them in the nearest marketplace if you like, or otherwise you might want to expand your skills and do more than simple harvesting. After all, you're trained in making potions too. To do this, go to the nearest alchemists' Workshop.
Do you have enough flowers to get married ten times over? You should think about using it to make potions. To test a recipe, click on a still and select the action 'Prepare a Potion'. Slide the ingredients into the slots available and indicate the number of units required. If the recipe is valid, an image will appear in the object slot. Finally, click on 'Combine' and Bob's your uncle!
When you've made a potion, you'll need something to put it in afterwards (Flasks, Tubes and Bowls). You can get these materials in the Alchemists' workshop in Amakna, from Uba Tesse (1,16).
Alchemists can make many potions with various effects:
You'll gain experience with every potion you create like with the craft professions. Once you get a little experience under your belt, you can move on to more complex recipes with more ingredients and more slots. The complexity of a recipe depends on the number of slots required to make it, each slot holding only one ingredient.
Like with the craft professions, the more complex a recipe is the more experience you'll gain if you manage to do it. But the lower your level is, the less likely you will be to succeed in using it bear in mind that no recipe is a guaranteed success.
If some flowers grow in every corner of the World of Twelve, others are a lot more difficult to come by. Here's a short list of some good harvesting locations:
You'll need a still to prepare your potions. You'll find them scattered all over the world, in the alchemists' workshops of the World of Twelve:
When you decide it's time to sell the flowers or potions you have, you can go to an alchemists' Marketplace. There is one in each of the main cities in the World of Twelve:
