Kolossium Leagues

By #[Briss] - ANKAMA - August 16, 2018, 16:00:00

For the 2.48 update, we will introduce the new Kolossium system: leagues.

This system will complement the Kolossium Rating system, with several objectives:

  • Provide a good representation of characters' rankings.
  • Offer easily obtainable progression goals.
  • Propose a continuous and intuitive progession system.

Leagues

There are six different leagues:

Bronze Silver Gold Crystal Diamond Legend
1 - 2500 2501 - 3500 3501 - 4500  4501 - 5000  5001 - 5500 5501 +

  • The three first leagues are split into 10 divisions: Bronze I league, followed by the Bronze II, Bronze II, Bronze IV leagues, etc..., up to Gold X.
  • The Crystal and Diamond leagues are split into 5 divisions each: Crystal I, Crystal II to Crystal V, then Diamond I, Diamond II to Diamond V.
  • Finally, the Legend is a special league that includes only the best players.
    • Characters' rankings are displayed, which allows players to know at any times how many characters are ahead of them.

Progressing from one league to another

For a character to be able to be ranked in a league it must first fight in five combats. A number of league points (equal to its Rating score) is then attributed to them. So if a character has a rating of 4000 after those five fights, it will get 4000 league points, which places it in the Gold IV league.
Subsequently, and at first, each victory will yield 10 league points while each loss will remove five points. Knowing that it takes 100 points to progress to the next league, advancing from one league to another is, at first, easy enough.
The progression is then slowed down, as a result of victories yielding fewer points. If the character continues to rank higher in a league whilst its Rating stagnates, it will still be possible to progress but it will take longer.
The leagues will be seasonal: after a certain amount of time, they will be reset. At that point, another five combats will have to be fought in order for the new league points to be attributed to a player, again according to its Kolossium Rating.
At an initial stage, the seasons will end with each major update (approximately every three months). Some rules will be applied to the leagues of a character within the same season:
  • A character can never drop division. The number of points gained from a victory is never inferior to the number of points lost in the event of defeat (but they could be of the same value).
  • There is no league for the 1v1 Kolossium.
  • For the same player, the 3v3 solo and the 3v3 team types give access to two separate leagues. The league taken into account for a character is the highest of the two.
  • The choice of allies and opponents, as well and the end of fight rewards are independent of the leagues: they remain dependant on the Kolossium Rating.

Rewards

Regarding the rewards, in addition to the XP and kolossokens won each fight, ornaments corresponding to the different leagues have been added. The Bronze, Silver, Gold, Crystal, Diamond ornaments display the character's division whiles the Legend ornament displays its rank.
We have also added a shield in the Kolossium shop, which changes in appearance according to your league.
And, at the end of the season, a title is given according to the league you have reached during that season.

Kolossium Improvements

Finally, we have made some improvements to the Kolossium system, independently of the leagues.
  • During the preparation phase, enemy players are now masked. It will no longer be possible to see their equipment, placement or initiative. Nicknames, classes, and levels will continue to be visible.
  • It will no longer be possible to create teams with two players of the same class in 3v3 team type of Kolossium combats. This was already the case for 3v3 solo combats.
  • We have removed a good portion of the old Kolossium maps: Goultaminator ones, as well as the maps from the Ten Years Tournament.
  • We have added the Dofus World Series maps to the Kolossium map rotation.
  • We have added the class power evaluation system to the group formation phase, as well as the opponents' match-up phase.
    • This system is already present in Kolossium 1v1, which we have now extended to the 3v3.
    • It allows for a better fight balance, taking the participating classes into consideration.
    • This system is based on the different classes' victory rates: if they are higher than the average percentages, the system will make them face stronger adversaries and vice versa.
    • The system will be adjusted based on the results of this first version.

Here are some answers to your most frequently asked questions across the communities.

First of all, please note that all this is for guidance only and the information is still subject to change before and during beta.

* work in progress *

Why not put a league in 1v1?

As has been said many times, the 1v1 is a game mode difficult to balance. The Kolossium leagues need to to be as competitive as possible, therefore, the 3v3 mode is preferable
.
Will the Kolossium improvements, including the fact that the opponents are hidden, be available in 1v1?

These improvements should also be effective in Kolossium 1v1.

Why not put a class pillars restriction on the Kolossium?

With the 2.48 update, we will improve the matchmaking. It will not rest exclusively on the rating, but also on the power of the classes. We preferred to revisit this system rather than simply restrict certain structures. It will therefore always be possible to create a double-pillar group, but in this new version, such a class synergy/combination will be considered particularly powerful, which will also greatly affect the level of adversaries that these groups may encounter. The advantage of this system is that it is scalable, so if a class is experiencing a fast growing rate, it will only take a few days for the system to adapt itself.

Will there be level restrictions considered in matchmaking?

There will be no changes made to player level restrictions. You may be matched with higher level players if the new matchmaking system determines that your chances of winning are still 50%. It will depend on your rating and the power of your class. In other words, to play against more HL players means to say simply that you are much stronger than the other players of your level (or that the opponent is particularly bad).

Why not using league pillars of the Krosmoz universe, rather than bronze, silver, etc.?

While the names of the pillars are certainly not the most original, they allow us to keep a system similar to other competitive games, which everyone is able to understand quickly that way.

Will there be new rewards with the use of the Kolossokens?

Yes, new rewards will be obtainable via the Kolossokens. However, they will not be exclusives. We will leave the suspense for you to discover them in the beta.

Will it be possible to do the Kolossium together if the 3 people are not in the same league?

You will be able to fight together if you are not from the same league, only a big difference in level experience of the characters can prevent the creation of your group. Matchmaking will help you find a balanced fight.

Why is there no demotion of the leagues in case of defeats?

We want to value the time spent in the Kolossium and help the player progress and not regress.

Why not give fewer rewards when defeated in the Kolossium?

We do not find it relevant and it may encourage successive fight cancelations.

With the establishment of the leagues, will the rating be reset?

Yes, the rating will be reset with the 2.48 update.

Any updates on the connection issues in the Kolossium?

We continue our work to improve your Kolossium experience. We very recently implemented a fix, which solved a lot of disconnection cases. These problems can be as diverse as varied, we invite you to report them in the “Problems and solutions” subforum by detailing them as precisely as possible so that we can find the causes to correct them.

Have you thought about balancing classes before the leagues are implemented?

We did work on class balancing. You can have a preview in the dedicated devblog. All changes will be detailed in the changelog at the implementation of the new game update.

When is the beta version available with these changes?

The beta should normally be accessible by the end of the month!

How about make each kolo fight a nice win for both teams, and winner side earn +10% more than one which lose. This would make items more avaiable in price - pebbles - as well as attract players to participate in. So just like now, but both sides get something for participation, its win/win.

Does that make 50% win rate face stronger opponent?

There is a flaw with that double-pillar adaptive automatic system thing.
If a composition really is more powerful and the system detects that, who will they be matched against when they're on top of the ranking? When there's no opponent with a greater level?

Finally! Let also improve 1v1 system and PVP will be almost as alive as it has been in "HeadHunter Quest" times. You should also add several things, that may be bought for kolossokens. I still cannot get even 1/4 money back, that I've spent for spell points...

Regarding having rewards for both teams.

Would it be possible to add slight rewards for the losing team based on characters killed? For example,

If the losing team killed no characters of the winning team, then they receive 0% of the winners tokens
If the losing team kills 1 character of the winning team, then they receive 25% of the winners tokens
if the losing team kills 2 characters of the winning team they receive 50% of the winners tokens (winners don't get less tokens in each scenario)

This would help provide losers incentive, but also prevent players from leaving a fight to get a reward (they would have to kill opposite team members to get any reward) It would even give incentive for teams to stick in a fight that they don't think they will win (if they kill 2 members from the opposite team, they can still get some rewards. I think this would help participation all around, while also not providing incentive for individuals to quit a match to get "given rewards" during the first turn (they would receive 0% for not killing anyone on other team). Those percentage rewards can just be an example, but I think the idea is sound. What do you think?

what about Multi accounting? Will that still be possible? I know alot of people are against Multi accounting in kolo, but many people, including me, dont like playing kolo with randoms who have an IQ of a fish. So, it would be nice if we were able to use our own teams for the League

That would be ideal. In fact, it would be more ideal if there would be a separation of the two. Fish should be matched against other fish and smugs should be matched against other smugs. This way, smugs can no longer exert their dominion over fishes. Let the predators fight among themselves in their own jungle leaving the prey among other prey. Smugs and fishes will be happy, the only ones who will not be happy are the bullies.

There still needs to be a level cap when it comes to pvp like there was with strokens so there could be master legends of all levels instead of only level 200s and overgeared 199s
