Taking Stock of the Ankama Launcher

By [Ankama]DOFUS - ADMIN - December 02, 2019, 17:30:00
AnkaTracker Announcements

The Launcher has been officially available for one month now, after a beta lasting several months. Today, we're taking stock.

We know that some of you are currently experiencing difficulties with the Ankama Launcher, and we apologize for this.

Through a beta phase offered to players of DOFUS, WAKFU and KROSMAGA, we progressively increased the number of users of the Ankama Launcher. In the course of these few months, many patches were applied (thanks, by the way, to our beta testers).

In order to test it with a broader population, we then chose to provide access to DOFUS Retro and the WAVEN alphas only through the Ankama Launcher. This allowed us to observe whether it was working correctly for an extensive sample of users.

We needed to encourage players to do without the old updater because it was gradually becoming obsolete. The technology used was so old that if a major problem occurred, we weren't sure we'd be able to get it working again within a reasonable amount of time.

That's why – after these initial successes with a growing number of users – we decided to take the plunge and roll the Ankama Launcher out to those who hadn't yet adopted it. The players' feedback, as well as that of an independent company, was conclusive.

We were, however, expecting that just like with all roll-outs of new interfaces, problems would arise. We believed this would only involve very few occurrences. We know that further incidents would be reported once the platform was accessible to everyone. We couldn't anticipate these scenarios completely, since they are dependent on multiple factors specific to each player's equipment: from the internet connection quality to the power of the processor installed, as well as the operating system version, right down to how old the graphics card drivers are; not to mention resistance to change, which is inherent when adopting a new system that disrupts a years-old habit.

Actually, technical incidents – which some of you are facing at the moment – did arise, and our team is working flat out so the platform will be stable as soon as possible.

Some problems have already been fixed, but we agree that we need to intensify our efforts because user satisfaction isn't yet optimal.

You'll soon be able to read the actual changes made to the Launcher in a changelog available directly on the platform.

As regards the KrosmoNote announcement and VOD implementation, there's still a long way to go before it is up and running. The team developing the feature isn't the same as the one responsible for maintaining the platform. The team faced with this challenge is ready to take it up.

We're carefully scrutinizing all malfunctions reported to us on the forums and via the Support team. We're really sorry for the difficulties some of you are experiencing, and we're doing everything we can to ensure things will be back to normal as soon as possible.

My friend was trying to download the game from the official website, but it says Error internet connection, please retry again. He has Internet and all, so please fix it up.

At this point, I am starting to assume that only pc's/ lappies located in France function perfectly, no accumulating lag, no memory leaks, same or more amount of accounts to be played at same time by same player, etc.

While it is only the Eng = Int Community having issues, biggggggggggggggg issues, plentyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy of issues, since the all-in-one launcher has been forcefully imposed on us.

Oh, or maybe our Int Community got so insignificant, so smallish, that none cares anymore about what we take the time to say?
Cuz there's hardly any official reply on forums in the last few months; except announcements, half of them for stuff to be sold to us; well, announcements aint replies tho, so, LOL !
As in, so many of us have complained about the issues we're encountering since the all-in-one-launcher; and not even that it doesn't seem that our problems with the game play-ability have been fwd-ed to devs since all our problems are still there, in game; but even furthermore, we started to doubt if they are being read at all, since even that random pat on our back from random official people "we are aware of your concerns/ issues, and we're working on them, to fix them, thank you all for your feedback and for the patience you have till our devs manage to fix the unexpected issues that have arisen" has been missing lately from the scene.

To us, it seems you had a deadline to finish this all-in-one-launcher and to test it, but you haven't actually tested it properly, not internally anyway, cuz if you'd  have had, you'd be aware of all the issues it has, bus, lag, dc's, etc etc etc w.e. etc.
At first there was the option to use single-game-launcher, or all-in-one-launcher. We, players, wrote about our issues, with both versions of client.
But ... Guess what ?! New all-in-one-launcher has just way too many bugs from single-game-launcher, directly imported into its core. When the all-in-one was supposed to fix "the unfixable" from single one.
If you'd have had even a couple of interns reading forums, you'd have known about the issues we have with the all-in-one-launcher.

Also, if you'd have read our posts, you'd be aware that many of us would prefer less "social media" and w.e. on launcher, but more play-ability on game itself, less lag, less memory leaks, less bugs, etc, over the "social media" newish part.
Maybe you are not aware, but, for social media, people use discord, skype, fb, etc.

I'll stop here, for now, before I actually write what is on my mind, and on many players' minds, related with the all-in-one-launcher and the waayyyy too rushed way in which it was forced on us.

Wait! One more thing:
If it is "easy" to have a few kinds of servers at same time (not servers, but kinds of servers) just to keep as many of us as possible hoocked into game, why shouldn't it be the same easiness to have more kinds of launchers, the all-in-one, and simultaneously single-game ones, one for each game.
