[FAQ] DOFUS Server Merger

By [Ankama]DOFUS - ADMIN - September 28, 2022, 18:10:01
AnkaTracker Announcements

The Server Fusion will take place in several waves. We'll start on October 11, with the fusion of the following servers (which will be grouped together to form a single server):

  • Atcham (ES)
  • Crocabulia (PTBR)
  • Echo (INT)
  • Rubilax (ES)

On this new international server, community channels will be added to allow players to communicate more effectively with each other, just as they do already on Ilyzaelle, Jahash or even Echo.

Character Names, Guilds and Alliances

After the fusion, it may be that several characters, guilds or alliances have the same name. If that happens, the following rules will be applied.

Character Names

  • The character who is level 50, who has logged in within the last 12 months and who has held a subscription will be given priority in keeping their name.
    • If two players have priority for the same name, then it goes to the character with the oldest creation date.
    • If two characters have the same name but neither of them has priority, then it goes to the character with the oldest creation date.
  • We'll add the original server tag to the end of the other characters' names. These characters will be given the option to change their name free of charge via a potion provided (linked to the character for life). They won't have to change their name when logging in, they can change it whenever they like.

How will double nickname suffixes work?

There won't be any, since it is theoretically impossible to have two identical suffixed nicknames (players cannot use [ ] in their nicknames). So you won't be seeing names like Titouan59-[JVA]-[MRN].

Guild Names

  • The guild with the oldest creation date gets to keep the name.
  • The other guilds will be given a tag at the end of their name, indicating their original server. They will be able to change their names free of charge using a potion given to the leaders (linked to the character for life).

Alliance Names

  • The alliance with the oldest creation date gets to keep the name.
  • The other alliances will be given a tag at the end of their name, indicating their original server. They will be able to change their names free of charge using a potion given to the leaders (linked to the character for life).

Alliance Tags

  • The alliance with the oldest creation date gets to keep its tag.
  • The other alliances will have a number added to the end of their tag. They will be able to change their tag free of charge using a potion given to the leaders (linked to the character for life).

We don't talk about active or inactive guilds or alliances. Once they're inactive, they're automatically deleted. So, it's not possible to have an inactive guild or alliance.
Don't forget that as long as one member is active, their guild and alliance is also considered active. As it stands, guilds and alliances with no active members are automatically deleted.
The creation date of guilds and alliances will therefore be the only criteria taken into account to determine which one will have priority over any other guilds or alliances sharing the same name.

What will happen to perceptors?

Perceptors will be removed from all maps during the fusion. However, their inventory will be transferred to their owner's bank.

What will happen to alliance prisms?

Alliance prisms will be removed. Unfortunately, we can't return nuggets, but the modules present on them will be transferred to the alliance leader's bank.
Therefore, we advise you to anticipate this and collect the nuggets before the server fusion.

Will the naming of characters be relaxed?

Yes, we plan to make the naming of characters more relaxed. It will be possible, for example, to use class names, two dashes and apostrophes.

Are you going to free up the names of characters that haven't played in a long time?

Yes, we're planning on freeing up the nicknames of accounts who have never held a subscription and who haven't been logged in for over two years.

Houses and Paddocks

Several versions of houses and paddocks will be able to exist on the same server. Each owner will only be able to access their own paddock or house and won't be able to use the other instances.

When you hover over the entrance to the house or paddock with your mouse, a tooltip will display the names of all the owners.

Will it be possible own several houses on the same server?

Currently, you can only have one house per account per server.

This limit will still be in place when buying a house, but an exception will be made if an account already owns several houses over separate servers that are going to be merged together. In this case, the owner will still own all their houses after the merge.

Will it be possible to own the same house several times?

Yes. If a player owns the same house on servers that will be fused together, they will be the owner of several instances of this house.

In this particular case, in addition to the owner's name, the original server will also be displayed. This will be especially useful in choosing which instance to access.

How will mounts in paddocks with several instances be displayed?

If several guilds own the same paddock, several instances of this paddock will exist:

  • The members of the guilds that own the paddock will see the mounts from their own guild;
  • Characters who are not members of these guilds will see the mounts from one of the guilds.

Are you going to keep the abandoned house and paddocks system?

Yes, but abandoned instances cannot be put up for sale. Instances that become abandoned will automatically disappear and, eventually (as more and more are abandoned), there will only be one instance of each house or paddock left.
If there is only one instance of a house or a paddock, it will be possible for it to become abandoned and it will automatically be put up for sale.
When an instance is deleted, its basic purchase price is reimbursed (not the real purchase price).

Will it be possible to sell a paddock or house, even if there are several instances of it?

It will be possible to sell your instance of a paddock or house, even if there are several instances of said paddock or house.

Will mount certificates be transferred over?

Certificates (whether invalid or not) won't be deleted during the fusion and will therefore be transferred.

Will abandoned paddocks and houses be transferred over?

Abandoned paddocks and houses will not be transferred over during the server fusion. They are no longer in use and we would like to reduce the number of instances of houses and paddocks over time.

How will home potions work if a player has several houses?

If a player only has one house, it won't work any differently than with the current system. However, in the case of players who have several houses, an interface will be displayed allowing them to choose their teleportation destination.

Banks, Items and Trade

If an account has several banks over different servers that will be merged together, the contents of these banks will be combined in the new bank.
Items in Marketplaces at the time of the merge will be placed in the bank, and the sale fee will be refunded.
Characters in Merchant Mode at the time of the fusion will be removed, and the associated fees will be refunded.
The contents of public inventories (trash, for example) will be deleted at the time of the merge.

Will artisans' signatures be transferred over?

Artisans' signatures on items will be correctly kept (and automatically updated in the case of changes to the character name) following the fusion of the game servers.

What will happen to the average prices?

Information about average prices will be pooled (between servers that will be fused together) to generate new average prices.

What will happen to the rune shattering rate?

Information about shattering will be pooled (between servers that will be fused together) to generate new rates.

Kama Exchange

What will happen to my offers on the Kama exchange?

When the merger starts, we will proceed to the cancelation and refund of all the offers made on servers concerned by the merger.

Will I be able to use the Kama exchange during the server merger?

The refund process involves putting the entirety of the Kama exchange in maintenance for around 2 hours. During this time, the Kama exchange will be innaccessible by all players, whether or not they're concerned by the merger.

Will the Kama exchange be reopened directly after the merge of my server?

At this time, we are unable to answer precisely to this question. The Kama exchange will be reopened in the hours or days following the end of the server merger for the concerned servers. We invite you to pay close attention to our communications on the Forum and our social media to be informed of the reopening of the Kama exchange.

How will the ogrine rate be determined after the merger?

For the multi-account french servers, there will be no changes since their Kama exchange is already inter-server.
For the mono-account servers, it will be reset to zero after the merger.
For the international server, we have yet to make a final decision, and we will come back to you when we have.

Haven Bags

The chest contents of the different Haven Bags (used on the servers to be fused) will be grouped together in the new Haven Bag chest.
The chest's item limit may, therefore, be temporarily exceeded. Please note that as long as the chest limit is exceeded, you won't be able to add anything else to it.

Server Distribution

The aim of the Server Fusion is to bring together enough players on each server to guarantee an optimal game experience (like on Ilyzaelle, for example).
The criteria used for the choice of server distribution are the communities and the number of players connected at peak hours.

Ilyzaelle has had latency issues at times in the past few months. If each of the merged servers has "about the same level of activity as we currently have on Ilyzaelle," doesn't that mean we'll have similar latency on all servers?

We'd be lying if we told you there'd be no latency at all from now on. But it's our goal to ensure that latency doesn't get worse.
It's true that high server populations can cause latency, but they're not the only source of lag. Latency can occur for many reasons and on any server, sometimes even on the ones with the smallest populations.

However, we can tell you that we're now increasingly well equipped to deal with these latency issues, so we're able to react more effectively. For example, we noticed latency on the Temporis Aris server after the merger. We were able to fix it in less than 2 days, and without interrupting the server.

Reducing the number of servers also enables us to monitor them more effectively, and to provide servers with more hardware resources.

Will Agride be fusioned?

Yes, Agride will be merged. Historically, Agride was our FR host server for new players, so its population was been permanently renewed for many years and benefitted from an optimal game experience. For that reason, Agride was not included in the 2017 server merge.
Although Agride’s present economy is relatively different from that of the other multi-account servers, the choice was made to:

  • merge it with another server because its population was going to be lower than that of the other servers.
  • remove any server specificity.

Additionally, we would like for it to continue working the way it is now (no incoming migration, outgoing migration permitted and preferred server for the creation of new characters).

Are you taking into account the RP and PvP communities?

When determining how servers will be grouped, our main criteria is the number of simultaneous players at peak time. "PvP and RP group presence" type criteria are not taken into account, because they're difficult to quantify. Communities are going to evolve naturally, according to the players' wishes, regardless of any choices we make.

Are economic differences taken into account?

We aren't taking into account economic differences between game servers. They are far too complex to estimate (each item may have its own price) and, generally speaking, the economies all work the same way from one server to another. There are some differences, but these will all be smoothed out quickly with the fusion anyway.

Will there be more server migration spots?

We don't have anything planned for now, but we will examine how the migration service is being used and the number of available spots if a need is identified.

Are you merging servers because DOFUS is running out of players?

No, the usage figures on DOFUS servers have been relatively stable for the past several years (except for seasonal variation and special events). As explained earlier, we're taking advantage of new technical developments to make these mergers and get higher populations on all servers.

Will the migration move small servers onto existing servers?

There won't be any "host" servers. The fusions will combine multiple servers into "new" servers. We want all our players to start off again on an equal footing in this adventure.

Services

Will it still be possible to change server after the fusion?

The server transfer service will be deactivated across all servers on Sunday, October 2 at 11:59 p.m. CEST, only to be reactivated once all DOFUS servers have merged. We will inform the community once the service is restored.

Miscellaneous

Are you going to adapt the number of harvestable resources?

The ecosystem for harvestable resources was planned to work on servers with a large population and we don't expect it to require any changes. As the value of resources depends in part on their rarity, it's to be expected that some resources are more difficult to obtain.
The trade value of harvestable resources is often seen as insufficient. We think that with a bit more competition, this value could increase.

Will it be possible for a French player to play on an international server?

This rule isn't going to change.
Except for mono-account servers, a French player with a FR account will not be able to play on a non-FR server.

Will the server fusion have a direct impact on the Shadow server?

The fusion doesn't concern this server, so it won't be affected by these changes.

Will we keep our friends list?

The friends list will be kept after the server fusion.

Where will the characters reappear after the fusion?

There won't be any changes to the way it currently works. When a character logs back in, they will be in the same place as where they last logged out.

What will happen to the area bonuses?

All bonuses will be reset after the merger.

Will we get to vote for the new server names?

No. As much as we would like to include you in the process, we have gone through so many servers over the years, and it isn't as simple as it seems, considering we needed names to meet certain criteria:
  • never used before as a server name,
  • be identical in EN, ES, FR and PTBR, and
  • already have existing artwork.

We will leave clues over time for you to discover the name of all future servers.

Added October 7, 2022

Will my ogrines be transferred with the merger?

The ogrines are not linked to a server but to your Ankama account. You will therefore keep them.

Will the Infinite Dreams be reset?

No, you will get to keep your progress.

Will the characters deleted pre-merger be restorable post-merger?

Yes, although you will have to login with a character that was on the same old server as the character you want to restore.

How will the Haven bags linked to the server be handled for the merger? Will be transferred?

The Haven bags will be active on your new server.

How will the mutualisation of the achievements be handled?

The rule will remain unchanged after the merger, which means if you have already claimed the ressources from an achievement with a character, it will not be possible to claim them again with the others.
NB : This is also true with pending achievements. If the ressources linked to an achievement are not retrieved they will disappear after the fusion. Don't forget to retrieve them!

--

I can't speak on whether this is the reason you're merging servers (although I suspect it is), and I hate to be negative about a some-what positive event, but can we stop pretending the population on Echo isn't (and hasn't been) falling? What's wrong with being honest about it?

Rushu, which is now a part of Echo, had more activity than Echo does now. Literally anyone from Rushu will tell you this. Claiming "usage figures have been relatively stable for the past several years" doesn't actually make it true. You're claiming this to readers, many of whom have been around for years, and know for a fact this is simply false. Rushu had more active markets, more merchants, more PvP, more PvM, more maguses, everything. Every aspect has become more inactive. The population has been steadily falling, and will continue to, because merging a bunch of inactive servers doesn't make one active server. The creation of Echo should've taught you this.

The problem is that the answer to this will be along the lines of "understandable, but we see figures on our end, which show the activity has been fine". Tell that to the players who play the actual game. It's the same as redefining what a recession is. You defining what activity is doesn't mean that people can't see that it's nowhere near as active as it used to be.

I love the fact there's initiative being taken, I just wish it was done honestly and with a plan.
"The following servers have been losing players, and we have reason to believe this is due to the servers being inherently inactive, and people starting to leave the game solely on the basis of it being inactive, snowballing into the steady population decline we've seen over the past 5 to 7 years.

Having done server merges in the past, and having seen the population decline Echo experienced despite the server merge, we have identified X, Y and Z issues on why this happened. We will solve these by doing  A, B and C."

I almost wish the merge didn't happen until December, just to prove a point. An entire new class, with all the marketing/trans-media you're about to do, Echo won't even reach 50% of the activity Rushu (and especially fresh Echo) experienced.

Kind of hate the fact Manaia has to take all this heat, but it's not as if there's a way to have a normal conversation with someone responsible for these ideas.

Hello!

This server merger has been a long time coming. A lot of planning and research that spanned several years led to this decision by the team. Our research showed that the numbers have been relatively stable on the servers for the past several years. Keep in mind that this FAQ was shared with all of our communities, and is therefore a global overview of the game's population.

Our decision to do a merger is largely based on technical advancements that have become possible in the past years. These specific developments, realized update after update for the last few years, allowed us to merge servers that had already been merged previously. Until two months ago, we were still researching how we could do this. So this merge could not have happened sooner!

We think this will help renew the economy of the servers and that it will be exciting for players to meet new Twelvians from other servers!

I hope this answers your concerns.

When you say that character name priority will be given to the character with the oldest creation date, do you mean the creation date of the name or the creation date of the character itself? Thank you.

Hello!
This means the date when the character obtained that name.

I hope this clears it up for you!
Have a great day!

We have added some additional questions on October 7, 2022. Here what was added:

Furthermore, please take note of the additional info down below:
There are characters with the same name on the same server. This case was not taken into account and we could not use the current renaming system (to add the server tag) because they would have had the same tag and, therefore, still the same name.

We decided to add a second tag for these very special cases (we are talking about less than 300 characters, most of which have not logged in for more than 5 years). We can find players with the following nickname: Lucifer-[A]-[ECH] (it's not a joke, it's this character who made this test fusion hell!)

The system that gives a renaming potion to the social groups (alliances and guilds) is broken. In view of the work needed, we will not be able to fix the problem for Tuesday. It was therefore decided to distribute these potions after the merger is complete. However, the objective is to make this system work again for the next mergers.

From the post: https://www.dofus.com/en/mmorpg/news/announcements/1513064-dofus-server-merge"As for what you need to do before the merge, we will do the heavy lifting:  our teams will take care of transferring mounts, houses, paddocks, alliances, guilds, inventories, characters, and banks for everyone. All you need to do is to keep in mind of a few things:

  • All of your items and resources up for sale in the markets and in merchant mode will be transferred to your bank, and sale fees will be refunded.
  • All alliance prisms will be removed during the merge. Any nuggets stored on these prisms will be destroyed during the merge. Make sure you have collected all of yours before the maintenance begins on October 11!
  • Perceptors will be deleted during the merge. Their contents will be transferred to their owner's bank.
  • As a precaution, we recommend that you do not delete any characters during the week before the merge.
  • All server transfers will be deactivated on Sunday, October 2 at 11:59 p.m. CEST. If you want to make sure you're with your friends from another World of Twelve on the same server, now is the time to join them, as the service will remain deactivated until all merges have taken place."

So everything in the paddocks will be moved over by Ankama, breeding items and Dragoturkey's. Kind of like how everything stayed in each paddock when they changed Bonta and Brakmar and put in the Breeding Towers

Hello!
It is not in our plans at the moment, no. But I will make sure to pass on your feedback to the game team!

Have a nice day!

Thank you, unfortunately I lost my house and I really liked being able to have a home. Now it costs over 100million to purchase a home from someone else.
I wouldnt mind like, apartements like you have with underground paddocks. It's an easy solution perhaps? Or options to expand your heaven bag? smile

How is it fun meeting new Twelvians when you can't communicate. Thanks for deleting the last english speaking server. The population was just right and now I can't even play this game without lowest graphic tools - nice.
