Ongoing Solutions to Improve Server and Game Conditions

Various modifications were added to the login server in order to:

  • Reduce the wait for identification
  • Optimize the overall performance of the server during peak loads.
We are continuously watching and improving this sensitive link to the game to allow all possible speed when connecting.

As stated above, the server dev team has been studying the login server to determine the cause of the recent connection difficulties, especially those of last weekend.

The current login system really needs a great deal of optimization to better balance the traffic load during the massive player influxes on weekend evenings.

The server team has already developed a new login system for DOFUS 2.0, but with the release of DOFUS 2.0 so close, we have no available resources to develop a patch for the 1.29 login server.

We would like to add that these login problems are not linked to our hosting service or the power of the machines that host our game servers, and that the login server is the only part of the game system affected.

With the release of 2.0, these login problems will begin to be corrected.

We performed important modifications on the network architecture of our web host during the weekly maintenance on Tuesday, December 1st. We did so to resolve big problems of lag and transfers between our different servers.

Since them we have observed a net improvement of queues and login delays at the entrance to the game. Indeed, even at the reputed over-loaded hours (18 h-20 h on weekdays, 16h-20h during the weekend) it is rare to see queues at the level of account identification and entry to the game.

We continue to work on optimizing the whole structure.

Our efforts are currently concentrated on the 2.0 servers, which suffer from memory leak problems. We are forced to perform a daily reboot on these servers for a time. We hope to quickly stabilize the situation so we can return to the regular rhythm of weekly maintenances, as with version 1.29.

All Dofus server architecture (1.29 & 2.0) was revised this morning, the amount of memory on each server has been doubled to improve server performance and anticipate future extensions to the game.

(Future extensions will only be available in version 2.0, 1.29 servers must first be migrated to take advantage of these extensions)

During the weekly maintenance update on 08/11/2011, the main login server has been replaced by a more powerful server.

The client patch deployed on 09/11/2011 now allows the DOFUS client to connect to several different login servers to better distribute the load of connection requests. The connection architecture has been overhauled in order to make use of this improvement.

These changes allow the reduction of connection time (shorter queues) and improve the availability of game servers.
