Real Triton Strategy NPC fight inconsistency

I was just doing the second fight against a group of Tritons during the "Real Triton Strategy" quest and noticed some inconsistency to all the other fights where an NPC joins you.

In literally every other fight with an NPC the fight's over when the NPC dies. In this one the NPC died and I was still doing the fight.

Tryde casts Watery Prison. Critical Hit!
Lieutenant Rayner: -504 HP (dead).
Tryde activates Watery Prison set by Tryde.

Capngoat: how is this fight still going?
Capngoat: the NPC died
Capngoat casts Manifold Bramble.
Tryde: -216 HP.
Tree: -136 HP (dead).
Tryde casts Underwater Camouflage.
Tryde is now visible.
Tryde has lost the effects of Underwater Camouflage.
Finish your turn by clicking on [End of Turn].
Capngoat casts Aggressive Bramble.
Tryde: -452 HP.
Tryde casts Underwater Camouflage.
Capngoat casts Bush Fire.
Tryde: -142 HP (dead).
Tryde casts Underwater Camouflage.
Tryde: -36 HP (dead).
The fight has ended.

And did the quest update or did you have to pick up the NPC again and redo the fight?

It updated. It worked as if the NPC never died.

I mean, I'm not saying I'm not happy about it, just seems odd to me that literally all other NPC fights end when the NPC dies and this doesn't.

While it's true that an NPC death is often a lose condition, it is really not that uncommon that you can win a fight when the npc is dead. Other cases include the sram when fighting the rats in srambad, the minicrone in count razoff's room and probably more that I can't specifically recall right now.
