Leveling Professions is too hard on most servers

By JaySecret - SUBSCRIBER - January 23, 2019, 00:22:33

I'm going to just ask a straight question because I feel like everyone should know what I'm talking about. Am I the only person that thinks that the spawn rate/quantity of resources nodes available isn't enough for players old and new to level up their professions in a decent time frame? I've seen new players focus on lumbers jack for weeks and only get to around level 20 or 30 because of how many people are hording the resources nodes throughout the maps, I feel like that's extremely sad because there are so many people who follow the tip that says that "Harvesting Professions are best for beginners" but never make any decent income or progress because of the fact that they are never able to level it up or stack up on the resources to sell. I don't know, maybe it's just me but I wanted to hear the thoughts of the community on this as well.

I feel you man. I used to earn a decent amount of kamas with mining but these days it's just not possible anymore. Obsidian is always depleted when I try to mine it in Frigost. Leveling harvesting professions is hard indeed. Selling the recources isn't that profitable anymore since it's hard to gather a lot of materials in a small amount of time.

As a fix they could have a layered system just like on Incarnam. So there is a higher chance of available resources when entering a mine ore a specific area.

I can't remember how I made money as a beginner 11 years ago. I think I just earned a lot of money by just progressions through the game. Earning doploons by killed dopples and trading them for scolls + mining was the way to go back in the days for me.

Firstly, you chose the hardest profession to level. Lumberjack and Mining is take the longest time to level. Any how, I understand your struggling with making kamas, did you think of other way of making kamas? Like dropping loot and selling them? crafting equipment and selling them?

I'm in Echo, and my IGN: Predict. Contact me if you still need help!

I disagree. I have Miner and Lumberjack at 200. Shoemaker is still stuck at around 180, after 11 years....

And if you think it's bad on Echo, try Ilyzaelle once...

Yeah, i'm having a hard time too with farming. I hope the Devs are going to find a Solution for this Problem with the lack of Nodes in proportion with the current Playerpopulation.

I may have the unpopular opinion, but I've never felt that professions are too hard to level, or that resources spawn too slowly. If they rapid-fire respawned, they would be dirt cheap, and everyone would have max level professions which is no fun. If you go the profit route, it's supposed to take a long time. If you want to spend lots of money you can get any profession to level 200 in a matter of minutes. There are lots of ways to make money nowadays.

Getting very frustrated over here on Ilyzaelle. It's not even about kamas, I just want to be able to play the game. I've been running around desperately trying to find wheat to cut and I'm almost always too slow and competing with at least three other players, who undoubtedly are hoovering up the resources much faster than me. I'm not asking for things to be easy, but right now it feelings impossible and I'm not having very much fun at all.

My problem is with player ethics, because on Ilyzaelle there are these people with apparently superhuman reflexes and an engine that can load a map almost instantly (it takes mine about 2 sec when it's mildly crowded) who can, for example, reap malt and hops, basically every resource on a map, but still compete to snatch the wheat away from lower levelled profession folk who just try to get by.

But there are indeed very few resource nodes in the game if you consider such a crowded server as the one i'm in. The Cania fields have not many fields in them anymore, so everyone who's looking to level up their farmer can find large fields of whean either in astrub or amakna, and i've looked it up on the wikia, there is a total of 8 maps with more than 10 nodes of wheat. Same goes with ash and chestnut, iron veins i believe are distributed onto 3-4 mines in the whole world? I mean... that can't possibly be enough for a whole server and it's underwhelming to see that they are basically concentrated in the amakna area, thus making it crowded while the rest of the continent is sterile, with maybe one or two wild mints every 2-3 maps. All those areas are also surprisingly empty for a server so populated as Ily, i think people should be incentivised to spread out and not converge. It would certainly make my maps load faster, i'll tell ya that!

I suggest spreding more resource nodes across the continent, add some trees, plants, even like 2-3 wheat or barley or hop nodes per map but make it spread evenly across the world so that one could for example hunt some monsters in the cania massif area, see some wheat and say "uhm i could reap this", also mines are easy to add basically anywhere and i'm surprised that with all the mountains in cania there's not a single mine. Trees! harvestable ones. We need those as well.

I have an unpopular opinion... I'd say gathering professions are a bit too slow to level up, but the amount of veins is good. First of all if you want any profit from the profession then you got to deal with competition. If there are 100 obsidian veins, it won't be hard to get your hands on obsidian therefore making it cheap. I assume problems arise in the very highly populated servers but especially for echo you can NEVER make me agree that there should be more veins. About ethics.... yea, people are super rude, i never understood how pc can load a map for 0.1 seconds... seriously... and the worst part is you can't do anything but go to another source of the item you need which sucks considering it is not really your fault that your pc isn't as fast. I disagree with resources being more spread out. This would make it harder to gather. Currently in order to get a lot of wild mind, you just have to go around amakna forest and you will get a whole bunch, but if they are spread out you will have to walk a lot more to get just some of it. Also it doesn't make sense to be so spread out. The continent is devided in its own sections that represent different climates making it logical for the wild mint to be in one place mostly. Also if you take few weeks to level up 20-30 levels then you are doing it wrong... Don't go after the highest level resource, but the resource you can gather that is also closest to your level. This way you get more exp per minute

what i meant by spreading the resources is not to spread one resource across the whole continent, but resources in general so that for example fields are not limited to the amakna area but so that you can find them in cania as well, make some more mines with iron, copper, bronze. 1-100 resources should be more accessible in general since they don't place too high on the market anyway, and it would be sound and reasonable to move most, not all, 60-160 resources to other areas so that a person who has levelled up their profession gets to change the scenery too and don't get their retinas full of the inglasses' fields.

Also it'd be cool if profession levels and character levels could be gotten in the same areas, so for example if one is lvl 60 as a character and as an alchemist, he'd find 80% of the plants in the lvl80 areas to be the latest one they could gather. But at this point i'm just spitballin' ideas.

Perhaps instead of adding more veins they could reduce the respawn time whilst also reducing the amount of resources gained from low level resources like iron. This would help players to level their professions whilst not being as damaging to the economy

There shouldn't be 20 players competing to see who clicks first on a resource node. It's a MMO, players should work together to socialize and achieve a goal, instead of being encouraged to stay away from people because they're competition for scarce items.
