Chat Bar

By drayr#6261 October 20, 2013, 21:00:29
The black bars at the sides of the fullscreen client have been mentioned before. A lot. But a good specific use would be to move the chat box fully into those spaces, shifting the game screen over, sort of similar to how Facebook looks.

Having an option to do this, or having it be at least possible using the plugin system coming eventually, would really help clear up clutter in the game UI. Could also allow the use of multiple chat windows which can be assigned to different channels, what have you. This would simply make it easier to follow the massive amount of information that many of us try to absorb through our little chat box (Trading, Recruitment, and Information messages come to mind)

Ok, but how about those ugly black bars when I enlarge the client on my lovely widescreen monitor? I want those bars to die in a fire. The trouble with fixing this problem is that the maps of DOFUS are all static images, like a .jpg or a .png. If you stretch them to fill in sides of the client on a widescreen monitor, they get distorted and horrible and make baby pangolins cry. The answer to this problem may also lie in the sweet arms of the plugin system, which might allow players to make adjustments that would allow for other user interface features to be moved into this black area. But this also means that we have no estimated date of release to share with you. That sucks, and we apologize.

I like this idea, it would open a whole new world for ankama to use the game screen.

They exist when playing full screen, they exist if you make your dofus screen larger on 1 side.

And if they implent this (as an option ofcourse), people could use it if they want, no one would have to use it.

Well, they don't have to delete the whole box in which the chat would used to be, but they could make use of that space for other things.

You'd then have the issue of different sizes of monitor.

Someone with a 17" monitor (going with typical laptop sizes here) would probably still have some black bars, a 15.6" (standard size I believe) would have no black bars, and anyone with smaller would have something cut off.

So they would have to create a version of it for all monitor sizes to fix the problem for everyone. And there are much more important things to worry about than this.

As already said (flippantly) in this topic, those black bars don't exist. I don't mean that in the sense that you can't see any black bars (because obviously you can see them, and I can see them, and anyone who resizes their screen so that the window doesn't exactly match the proportions of the game screen can see them); I mean that in the sense that those black bars are entirely outside the game area. You can't put anything in there, because they're not part of the interface or even the game at all.

In other words, the game area is of fixed proportions, regardless of the size of your window or screen, and the black area is just your operating system filling in the unused area of the window or screen with black pixels. You can't move anything in there.

True, but what about some sort of char bar apart from the dofus client? you could be able to pop it open out of the screen.

Id rather just chat in game than download a new client or application for chatting. Make a phone and Chrome Browser app for feeding pets and id assume anyone would buy it.

Let's wait for those add-on mods that Ankama are developing. Hopefully, they will create movable HUD interfaces that we can move to cover those black bars.
