Rules and Sanctions

When you sign up for DOFUS and/or DOFUS Retro, you agree to follow certain rules. These rules exist to maintain a friendly atmosphere and ensure that all players are comfortable in the game.

If a player breaks these rules, he or she should be aware that he or she may be sanctioned. The severity of the sanctions varies depending on each case and its seriousness.

List of actions that can be performed after an offense is committed.

Warnings

For certain offenses, a warning is given to the player to inform them of the rules and to warn them that they risk sanctions. This warning is sent directly in the game by the moderators or by email from Ankama. It does not expire and is automatically considered to have been read and understood by the player.

Muting

Removing the ability to speak is one of the sanctions applied by moderators against players who do not comply with the rules of DOFUS. This may be accompanied by a request that Support suspend the account(s) in question (ban).

Kicking

Moderators may remove players from the game for a set amount of time. This is usually accompanied by a request that Support suspend the account(s) in question (account ban).

Temporary ban

The account is inaccessible for several days (3, 7, 15, or 30 days). This temporary suspension, applied by Ankama Support, is a step that sometimes precedes a permanent ban of the account. Its duration depends on the seriousness of the infraction and whether it is a repeat offense.

Permanent ban

The account is permanently closed; the player can no longer access it. This sanction is usually applied in cases where players are repeat offenders or have committed unforgivable breaches of the DOFUS and/or DOFUS Retro rules.

The severity of the sanction depends on the seriousness of the offense. Generally speaking, several warnings lead to a temporary ban, and several bans lead to a permanent ban. However, some offenses automatically result in a permanent ban. Similarly, repeatedly breaking a rule can also lead to a permanent ban.

Non-Exhaustive List of Rules of Conduct that Must Be Followed

Accounts, Characters, Names, and Nicknames

All account and character nicknames, guild names, and alliance names and tags must comply with the following rules:

  • Must be pronounceable (for example, ssdfzxjf doesn't follow this rule), with the exception of alliance tags.
  • Must not refer to a political orientation, ethnicity, community, or religion.
  • Must not be vulgar or insulting.
  • Must not have sexual or pornographic connotations.
  • Must not contain your identity (first and/or last name) or that of another member of the community.
  • Must not imitate a trademark.
  • Must not refer to drugs or other illegal substances.
  • Must not suggest or refer to practices forbidden by game rules.
  • Must not imitate the names of major components of Ankama's creations (NPCs, heroes of the story, iconic places, dungeon bosses, etc.).
  • Must not imitate the nickname of an official account (moderator, game master, or member of the Ankama company).
  • Must not be written or spelled in an alternative way in an attempt to circumvent the rules imposed here.

Lending accounts is forbidden, because of various possible abuses (using the borrowed account to commit offenses, theft, etc.). If this rule is not followed, both parties involved (loaner and loanee) may be sanctioned.

Selling, buying, trading and giving accounts is forbidden. The accounts are the property of Ankama and, as such, no pecuniary profit, whether in real or virtual (kamas) currency, can be derived therefrom. Moreover, each account is associated with personal data, which are risky to divulge. The account's original owner remains forever responsible for their character's actions. They can be prosecuted criminally in the event of serious actions performed with their account.

Discussion Channels

Each channel has its own purpose. In DOFUS, this is indicated in the in-game guide, in the "Chat" section. In DOFUS Retro, it is indicated when you hover your mouse over the check box to enable/disable the channel. Using channels improperly is forbidden.

  • Flooding, which consists of inundating channels with several messages in a row within a short timeframe, is not allowed.
  • Trade flooding (in the black common channel) is forbidden outside of merchant maps.*
  • Recruitment flooding is also prohibited.
  • Requests for and offers of services (looking for a crafter, help with a quest or dungeon, etc.), as well as requests regarding the location of portals or monsters, are sent in the recruitment channel.
  • Making excessive use of special characters, emphasizing one's message by writing in all caps, and repeating a character to attract attention are forbidden. In addition, in DOFUS Retro, using the @ symbol or any other character that makes it possible to display the dangerous website automatic warning message ("Warning") is also forbidden.
  • It is forbidden to distribute links (URLs) that redirect to a third-party site if Ankama is not the author of the content.

* The locations of market places are indicated on the world map. In DOFUS Retro, the Astrub market place is located under the Zaap.

Animation

  • Due to the high risk of thefts and scams, the unauthorized organization of events that call on the generosity of other players to provide the prizes is forbidden.
  • In order to maintain the stability of the servers and preserve the quality of the game that depends on this stability, organizing events whose sole purpose is to form a crowd is forbidden.

Respecting Other Players

  • In order to maintain a pleasant atmosphere on the servers, polite language is required at all times. Vulgarity, insults, promoting terrorism or illegal practices, speech that is racist, xenophobic, homophobic, or sexual in nature, and any other inappropriate comments are forbidden.
  • With the exception of the international servers, each server is associated with its own language defined by its community. Only this language is allowed in the public channels. This rule does not apply to private channels, where you are free to speak in another language. The DOFUS international servers have several public "Community" channels, one for each language. Using any language within them other than that of the associated community is forbidden.
  • Scamming is prohibited. It's never a good feeling to realize that you've been tricked or manipulated in any way. As such, all scams detected directly in the game by moderators will be sanctioned.
  • Identity theft is forbidden, whether it be the identity of a player, guild, alliance, or official account, regardless of intent (whether good or bad).
  • Disclosing another player's personal information is prohibited.
  • Using one's character to obstruct or hinder access to NPCs, map-changing cells, or any points normally accessible in the game is forbidden.
  • Generally speaking, disrupting the game for other players is forbidden.

Trade

The following are prohibited:
  • Account, guild, alliance, and alignment trading.
  • Subscription and kama trading outside the ogrine and kama exchanges.
  • Inter-server, inter-game, and inter-platform trading.

MERCHANT MODE

Outside of market place locations, each player is entitled to a maximum of one active merchant mode per map.
The following are prohibited:
  • Selling resources at excessive prices with the aim of keeping or selling a position in merchant mode.
  • Using the gift-wrapping system with the aim of camouflaging an item up for sale to circumvent the above restriction.
  • Positioning a merchant mode station in a way that hinders or even obstructs access to the game (a door, a map-changing cell, etc.), NPCs, or other players in merchant mode.

Cheating

  • Exploiting any in-game bugs is prohibited. Any anomalies must be reported to Support in the appropriate section.
  • Using any third-party programs (including programs commonly known as "bots" or "auto-clickers") is forbidden, regardless of their use.
  • Creating, using, and promoting a private DOFUS and/or DOFUS Retro server are prohibited.
  • Modifying the game client is forbidden. This includes all files present in the game's installation directory.
  • Using two or more accounts by any one player in alliance-versus-alliance, prism, or perceptor player-versus-player fights is forbidden.

SINGLE-ACCOUNT MODE

  • A single player may only log in with a single account at a time on each server.
  • Having an account in merchant mode and playing with another account at the same time on the same server is forbidden.
  • Using a proxy, VPN, virtual machine, or any other method that allows the limitations implemented to be circumvented is forbidden.

Moderators ensure the rules are followed in the game. They do not in any way replace Support (http://support.ankama.com/hc/en-us).
