DOFUS Retro Remastered FAQ

1. What is DOFUS Retro Remastered?

DOFUS Retro Remastered is an optional pack that offers a huge number of aesthetic and technical improvements: images in vector-graphics format, revamped spell icons, improved compression, remixes of all the music and sound effects, and of course a game-wide shift from 20 to 40 FPS.

2. How do I launch DOFUS Retro Remastered?

To launch DOFUS Retro Remastered: Open the DOFUS Retro tab in the Ankama Launcher, go to the game options menu (the one where you choose 32 bits or 64 bits) and switch from the classic pack to the Remastered pack. The file download will start automatically.

3. Why a beta version?

As with any project, we prefer to offer a beta version at first in order to identify any potential problems. In theory, DOFUS Retro Remastered is finished, but we want to test it with you, get your feedback and possibly spot any unexpected bugs, like abnormally fast animations or missing backgrounds. The beta will give us a chance to do a last round of "polish" before officially launching DOFUS Retro Remastered.

4. Is the trailer smoother than what we actually see in-game?

32-bit version of the client: The Flash player has a bug independent of the game that forces certain machines to switch to full-screen mode (CTRL+F) to achieve smooth results. We are studying player feedback to propose a fix.

64-bit version of the client: The bug does not occur in this version. While the display is a bit less smooth by default, this version is less prone to frame rate drops when the client is under heavy demand.

5. What about performance?

A Remastered client is almost twice as good as a classic client. Players can optimize their performance by changing certain display options (deactivate auras, lower creature mode) and by putting up with a few frame rate drops. To be sure, the simplest approach is to test on your machine. Certain aspects have been revised, notably the "ready" animation in combat; immunity, which had an exceptionally elaborate animation; etc.

6. A smoother game… does that mean a faster game?

The client runs more smoothly and is more responsive in the menus thanks to the 40 FPS frame rate, but the speed of the game is identical and doesn't offer any particular advantages. The game is simply more pleasant to interact with.

7. Will there be black and white icons to replace the color ones?

Yes! Only the color version will be available at first, however.

8. Will some changes from Remastered be transferred to the classic client?

Our goal is to offer you the same classic version that you've always known and to avoid making any visual changes to it. We are looking at a few improvements we can make, however, like fixes for certain bugs.

9. Will there be updates?

There will be some bug fixes if needed, but probably no major changes. Certain ideas that couldn't be implemented in time will appear in a later update.
